This tea was used as as Imperial tribute tea back in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The processing method of this tea was said to be lost, only to be rediscovered during the 1970's. Since then, Huo Shan Huang Ya has been sent as tribute to many great leaders of China every year. The aroma and taste of this tea is reminiscent of bamboo stems and its taste is quite unique and refreshing. This tea is mostly single bud tea leaves, and the liquid is yellowish-green in color. Because of its color, this tea is called Yellow tea.

Very good Tea! I thought at first from looking at this tea that it was a green tea but I see it’s called a yellow tea. I didn’t follow steeping instructions on this one and I just used the gaiwan with steeps less than one minute and it is wonderful and not weak at all from such a short steep, reminds me of some of the oolongs I’ve had and feels great in the mouth makes ya just want to swish it around a little.
